dude, what about bon iver...

mmm... first of all, isn't bon iver a french name? that's a huge no-no for any self-respecting americana fan.

j/k. i considered putting a bon iver song on, but i think he's a little too abstract and intense for what's going on in this mix... i just think the narratives in these songs are really powerful, and bon iver, while compelling, isn't very narrative.

i was gonna say 'bon iver' too. something like skinny love. but in general, how about having only one artist per? i noticed gillian welch was on twice. just a consideration to diversify the mix.

i vote for either bon iver or decemberists.

hm... when i said "taking requests", maybe you thought i meant "taking suggestions"...

bon iver and the decemberists are both great, and you can justify them on the mix, but they don't really fit the context of the mix... for bon iver, he's too serious, intense and abstract. the decemberists are cool and i like them a lot, but i think they're too poppy for the other songs on the mix... they'd make the other songs sound bland, which isn't fair to their subtlety and narrative.

trust me, i thought long and hard about each song... maybe there are a few mistakes or weak spots but adding more songs would also be a mistake i think.

o and diversifying is pretty key dave... but i'd rather put two very different gillian welch songs on over something that may not fit as well.

Berry nice. I see you are continuing on this "americana" streak. At this rate you are well on your way to becoming a factory worker or farmer. I imagine listening to this music while reading "The Grapes of Wrath" or in the background while getting ready to jump off a bridge. Or at some dimly-lit elitist coffee house surrounded by art nouveau and skinny grad students with beards.

Anyway Kris: gimme

kris: grrr8 mix. except the last gillian welch track isn't "i dream a highway," it's "pancho and lefty." come on!

this is really good chris, hahaha

for the longest time, I thought Americana was the name of the artist/group...

I really like 10 and 1.
